I've never really been a fan of PHP. I think it's time I switched to another language for web development (either Python or Lua).

Not Lua, Lua is not a good language for web development. It wasn't intended for it.

Professionals haven't liked PHP for a long time. It shares many of the same problems as Perl, which makes sense as it was initially a collection of Perl scripts.

Lua was not intended for Web Development, true, so it should not be used for it.

PHP, in my opinion, however, is a poor competitor against most other languages, but is a good entry-port for its simplicity.
