Go to google and search 'dark fail' the first hit will be for a site that is basically a directory of some of the main markets and forums on the dark web. Bare in mind that all of the links contained on the site are .onion links and must be opened using the TOR browser, they will not work in a standard browser like Chrome or Firefox. Use this as your starting point, there is a forum called dread you can get the link to it on the aforementioned site. Make an account talk to the people there, they can guide you further.

I don't think the darknet is safe

Run Tails on a USB, don't activate a root user, and don't change any settings. You'll be good to go.

Just know that your IP can still be leaked by Tor nodes. And as long as a government entity doesn't see you as a direct threat to them, you shouldn't be too worried.
